GULF SAHODAYA QATAR CHAPTER CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME
IMPLEMENTING CHEMISTRY IDEAS -NANOTECHNOLOGY TO CONTROL POLLUTION
QATAR CHAPTER CAPACITY BUILDING PROGRAMME CONDUCTED BY Doha Modern Indian School
TOPIC: IMPLEMENTING CHEMISTRY IDEAS -NANOTECHNOLOGY TO
CONTROL POLLUTION
Resource Persons– Ms. Mary Stella & Ms.Deepthy
DPS teachers Ms.Niya Jacob & Farzana Saif, attended the Qatar Chapter Capacity building- 2023 workshop held on 18th March 2023 at Doha Modern Indian School (DMIS) under the topic ” Implementing chemistry Ideas -Nanotechnology to control pollution”.
The workshop started with great enthusiasm as it was attended by many participants from various Indian schools in Qatar. The introduction to Nanotechnology was done by Ms. Deepthy.
- Nano chemistry
- Synthesis of Nano materials– Scanning Tunneling Microscope(STM)
Classification of nanomaterials 0 dimensions, 1 dimension, 2 dimensions and 3 dimension
- Methods of preparation–
Top-down method (Destruction)
Bottom-up method (Construction)
Electrospinning, sputtering, lithography, Laser ablation, Laser pyrolysis, etc.
- Applications
Information technology, Medicine/ Health, Transportation, Aerospace, Food and Agriculture, National security and Defense, Robotics, etc.
Ms. Stella: Outline of the talk
- Synthesis and characterization of Nanomaterials for water treatment and pollution control
- In developing countries like India the formulation of indigenous low-cost effluent treatment technique is needed.
- Methods were shown to prepare Nano fiber using household wastes which can be economically effective in controlling pollution.
- Eg: Chitosan when dissolved in 0.2 M acetic acid after various techniques, developed a sol phase, which converted them into nanoparticles. These nanoparticles or fibers are very useful in managing the pollution
Conclusion
The workshop concluded with an activity, which was enjoyed thoroughly by the participants.
To make the workshop interactive, there was a session held for questions and answers.
There was various presentation given by other participants from different schools to show the techniques or tools for teaching the class effectively.
The workshop ended with an allotment of certificates and gifts to the participants.
There was a group photograph taken as a token of remembrance.
