‘The work of education is divided between the teacher and the environment.’
A special workshop on “understanding the ecology and behavior of cockroaches in relation to humans ” was conducted by Qatar Chapter Capacity Building Programme in Biology for Secondary level teachers at Olive International School, Doha- Qatar on 18th March 2023. Teachers from different Indian schools in Qatar attended the workshop. Ms. Christina Abraham and Ms. Maya Shajeev represented DPS Modern Indian School, Doha-Qatar.
Mr. Vishal Sharma conducted the workshop on the topic in an effective and interactive manner which enlightened the participants to view cockroaches from a different perspective. The role of cockroaches in the environment as Decomposers, Pollinators and how they influence the Bio- Geo chemical cycles, Soil fertility, Waste elimination, and the like were the concern of the workshop.
All teachers were actively involved in the discussion and shared their views on the topic. The workshop ended with a beautiful message, instead of being nasty or disgusting creatures, cockroaches are beautiful organisms and they play a very important role in nature. Contrary to popular or common belief, cockroaches are not useless pests who do not contribute anything to nature, they are an essential part of the environment around us.
